What began as a simple network to help Harvard College students quickly and affordably communicate outside of class has quickly grown into the largest social networking site in the world. Facebook.com was founded in 2004 and in only a few short years it has become an obsession for millions of people around the world. At last count, the website had more than 64 million members, most of whom visit the site each and every year.
Why do they use it? Well, probably the most practical application is to contact friends and family members who live in different parts of the country, or even in other countries. Facebook.com has been proven safe, fast and affordable.
However, many folks do use the site for entirely different reasons. One of the most popular recent uses for Facebook is as a dating site. How do folks find a facebook date ? Well, as we mentioned, Facebook was not designed as a dating site. However, when individuals sign up for free accounts, they have the option of listing their marital status. They can either choose married, single, or single and looking.
As you might expect, this last designation is a not so subtle invitation to other Facebook members who are also single and looking. And really that is how easy it is. Members of the popular site are able to simply contact each other and ask if they want to become friends. Once this invitation is accepted, and it often is, they are free to chat and visit each others’ member pages.
Of course, Facebook does not take any responsibility for meetings, trysts or rendezvous, even if they are discussed and agreed to over the Facebook network. Even so, there have been few complaints as people seem to have slowly but surely discovered the dangers and advantages of internet dating.
